NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary,
NYS Association of Conservation Commissions and Orange County Department of Planning invite you to:

Orange County Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) Roundtable
Wednesday, November 30, 6:30-8:30 pm

Community volunteers serving on municipal Conservation Advisory Councils (CACs) play an important role across the Hudson Valley by advising local officials on matters related to the environment. CACs educate the public, create inventories of important natural resources, assist planning boards with reviews of proposed development projects, contribute to the creation of local conservation plans and policies, and can research topics of local interest, such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, water protection, open space, and or tree preservation/management to name just a few.

This roundtable offers a forum for CAC members in Orange County to share successes and learn about the conservation efforts of neighboring communities.

Our panel will kick off the first hour of the evening discussing how to create a CAC in your municipality, strategies for developing a strong advisory role for CACs within local government, and how this same group can serve as a NYS DEC Climate Smart Community (CSC) task force that can address similar issues and access NYS grant funding for your municipal efforts. Elected officials, staff, and individuals interested in forming new CAC/CSCs are encouraged to attend.

The second hour will include an open roundtable discussion for all CAC/CSC members to share their initiatives, current projects, and past efforts so that all volunteers can learn. There will be ample opportunity for questions and exchange of ideas.
